Two Rides in One!
First Ride (Nashville) -
The Murfreesboro girls are going to come down for the afternoon to ride with us! We'll meet up at 2:00 at the red bench in Hillsboro Village. I think we'll do a casual ride downtown, to the Shelby Bottoms Greenway, and ride to the Cumberland Bridge and back. Then we'll head over to Centennial Park to hang out and trick around. After that we can all go to fido, cafe coco, bongo, or wherever to get some food.

Second Ride (Murfreesboro) -
We're going to carpool to Murfreesboro for bike nite! A lot of people come out to this ride and it'll be a lot of fun and a great way to meet new people. I believe it starts around 9:00-9:20. Let's meet up in the Fido parking lot at 8:00 and try to head out by 8:15. I have room for 3 people in my car. Who else can drive if we have more people than that decide to come to Murfreesboro?

Since Tom and I have been able to get a lot out the fixed gear community we would like to give back to it in some way. We’re willing to bet that a lot of frequenters Sir Probably’s have seen this video, but we feel it is a great tutorial to learning how to wheelie.

A self proclaimed “fixie newb” systematically breaks down the mechanics of the wheelie into a clear and concise list.

1. Raise your seat to find your balance point.

2. Pop it up with your most comfortable foot which may be your left or right or other foot. There is no need to worry about trying too hard because the front end comes up automatically.

3. Get into the “Go Point”

4. Balance that shit.

5. Wheelie all the way into a tardy mark in homeroom.

I know a bunch of people looking to get this down...so seeing this made me want to post it.so enjoy

THIS IS NOT A CASUAL RIDE! We will be keeping a fast pace for approximately 40 miles. This is a no-wait, every man for themselves ride (i.e. if you fall behind, no one is going to stop and wait up for you, you will be on your own). So if you come, be sure to bring your own tools, tubes, and a pump or CO2 cartridge because if you get a flat, there may not be any one there to help you out. Make sure to bring lots of water and be ready to push yourself! The Route is as follows:

Starting at Centennial Park
Riding out at 1:30pm
Heading North on 28th past TSU to Ted Rhodes Park
Enter the Metrocenter Greenway
Take the Greenway Downtown to the Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge
Over the bridge to East Nashville to Shelby Park
Take the Shelby Bottoms Greenway to Two Rivers Park via Cumberland Ped. Bridge
Follow the Greenway to the Percy Priest Dam
Head back the same way

DMR's site announced last week the following recall:

SAFETY RECALL - DMR Alloy Handlebars (25.4mm) sold since June 2009

Partridge Green, West Sussex - DMR Bikes, a subsidiary of Upgrade Bikes Ltd, today announced a voluntary recall of the DMR COLOURED ALLOY WINGBAR sold since June 2009.

The handlebar can crack or break, posing a possible fall hazard to the consumer. We have identified a potentially serious safety issue with the latest batch of the 25.4mm anodized alloy Wingbar. It only affects the Coloured Alloy 25.4mm DMR Wingbars sold since June 2009.

Don't worry though, it doesn't affect these:
• DMR Alloy Wingbar – 31.8mm with ‘classic graphics’
• DMR Alloy Wingbar with ‘classic graphics’
• DMR Cro-Mo Wingbar with a brace
• DMR Heat treated Cro-Mo Wingbar
• Any DMR bar fitted to a DMR complete bike

We'll be riding a new route, ending at sonic, then a viewing of MACAFRAMA projected either on the side of MYHOUSE//YRHOUSE or THE HUB. Here's a link to the facebook event: MFBN VII

In other happenings around the MORE FRIES BRO, we've been doing a lot more video production. Wayne Pollard recently made a video of Charlie Hareford and Charlie Rose bombing Tiger Hill. Tiger Hill is pretty much straight up, the video doesn't even begin to do justice of just how fucking high this hill is. The video was featured on FixedNUS and already has over 500 hits, GREAT JOB! Wayne also started an OWLHEAD COLLECTIVE vimeo channel that will collectively feature videos created by Murfreesboro kids, and such.
Secondly, Ryan Green, Wayne, and i are getting together a TREASURE HUNT RIDE. We're starting on the maps soon, and I'm working on getting some treasures and such. Dates, teams, and the map will be posted soon. This will be a really exciting ride with booby traps! I'm trying to get more activities together here so more people will come out to ride. Videos and pictures of tomorrow's ride will be up friday or so. Until then, here are some pictures from the ride i called yesterday, and a bike photoshoot by Holly Johnson.

Cupcranks Free Cupcake Ride III

Yesterday's Cupcake Ride was a lot of fun as always. Gigi's Cupcakes gave us amazingly delicious and free cupcakes, milk and water (thank you!). We rode from Hillsboro Village to Gigi's for our cupcakes. After getting sick, in the most awesome way, from all the sugar, we rode to Legislative Plaza to trick around, hang out, and take some pictures. After getting kicked off out of Legislative (apparently those stone squares are 15,000 each), we rode over to the courthouse for some more fun riding and playing in the fountains. It was the most perfect fall day with a gorgeous sunset. You can find more pictures here.

Meet up in the Village. If you get there early, get a seat at the Villager Tavern. At 8:30 we ride to the Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge for refreshments. Then whenever we feel like it we will make our way to the Devil's Dungeon Haunted House. After we will tell ghost stories and have some more refreshments on the Shelby Street Bridge.

Where the Wild Things Ride

Yesterday's Where the Wild Things Ride was a definite success! We all met up at Halcyon, rode downtown to the Shelby Street Bridge, and crossed the river over to the Greenway. After a stop for some water at the Nature Center we rode through the Greenway to Opry Mills, ate some delicious lunch, and then watched Where the Wild Things Are on IMAX. We had a great turnout and the ride ended up being a lot more fun than I had even anticipated. More pictures here on Keef's Flickr.

Google Maps, The "Bike There" Option, and You.

For those of you who missed the recent post on this. Google has been widespread with new mapping vehicles (Street View Trike). Good for Google, but better for us. Not only is Google showing the international cycling community some serious love, they are updating the accessibility of their entire mapping system. Can someone say, "Upgrade!"? Google is in the process of mapping areas which cannot be reached by car. They are also asking the public to help. Google is currently (until an Oct 28th cutoff date) accepting suggestions of where to send the SVT (Street View Trike). Let's do what we can and get the Middle Tennessee Greenways, The Four Natchez Trails, and Local Park trails on the list. This not only will help us get Nashville and the Greater Nashville area more accessible to cyclists unfamiliar with the area, but also (I think) provide us with an awesome "bike there" option which might (fingers crossed) take into account elevation. This will add a fourth option to "the quickest route" in addition to walking (shortest distance), fastest w/highways, and fastest w/out highways. I don't know about you but i personally would like to know if I'm going the right way w/out having to ask Whit or Mike Crouch. So let's get on the horn. Contact Google and suggest locations for the SVT to ride and document (most importantly the Greenways). Let's make Nashville, Tennessee, America, and the world a better place to cycle. Thanks.

NOT UNLIKE THE UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE.

Although tonight was a lot colder than we've been used to lately, MFBN still had a great turn out despite the constant mist. I don't have pictures of tonight yet, but the lovely Ryan Green [aka CUPCAKE, for obvious reasons] will be providing pictures. Until then, at the top of this post is a photographic comparison of what tonight was like [minus that racing strip-esque bush ordeal.]

So without further ado, here were the highlights of tonight's ride:

1. Jenna Pucket supplied bubble wrap for us to ride over during the hang before ride out. Who doesn't like bubble wrap?
2. Danny McClain surprised us all with badass spoke cards that he made himself. There were several different ones with phrases including "YOU ARE NOT FECES, YOU ARE FANTASTIC", "YOU ARE NOT EXCREMENT YOU ARE EXCELLENT" and my personal favorite "YOU ARE NOT SHIT, YOU ARE CHAMPAGNE". On the bottom they said "From poop to positive", and on the back they read "YOU ARE NOT A NUMBER 2 AS LONG AS YOU ARE ALWAYS YOU". We love danny.
3. Slickest of the slick foot down. Causing lots of near collisions, and Hank the Tank to eat shit. In the end Charlie Hareford, aka CHARLES DARWIN, won, although it was reaaaaaal close between him and Jason Huber.
4. My tandem bike ate Yoseph's pant leg.
5. Wayne farting in the megaphone....A LOT.
6. SKID COMP! I got a lot of good footage of it, so GET READY. HANK the TANK won the 1st round, then Charlie won the 2nd round, although it was nearly a tie between him and Jason. Hank promptly ate shit on the slippery slant, yet again.
So I'ma wrap this up with last week's bike night footage. Which for some reason, Vimeo added another several minutes of nothing to the end. You'll see what i'm talking about. Wayne filmed the actual riding footage and I got everything else. Keep your eyes peeled to see Ed by the cop car with the beer. Music by DIPLO, NEON INDIAN, and CHEAP TIME.
This week's should be up by Saturday or Sunday, and should be the best to come.
